The Irresistible Reuben Sandwich
If there’s one thing that can bring people together, it’s a good old Reuben sandwich. This grilled delight is a true American classic, and for good reason.
When you think of a Reuben sandwich, you think of succulent corned beef, tangy sauerkraut, gooey Swiss cheese, and the pièce de résistance – Russian dressing. It’s the kind of sandwich that makes you forget all your other lunch plans and head straight to the nearest deli.
Ingredients for 4 Hungry Souls

For the Sandwich
- 8 slices of rye bread
- 600g of corned beef
- 200g of sauerkraut
- 4 slices of Swiss cheese (sliced to the size of the bread)
- 50g of butter
For the Russian Dressing
- 20g of fresh horseradish
- 100g of mayonnaise
- 30g of ketchup
- 5cl of pickle brine
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper
- Prepare the dressing by grating the horseradish, then mixing all the ingredients in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper to taste. This dressing can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- To assemble the sandwich, spread Russian dressing on one slice of bread, then add 150g of corned beef, sauerkraut, a slice of Swiss cheese, and another slice of bread with the dressing on the inside.
- Melt the butter in a pan over high heat. Place the sandwiches in the pan and grill for 3 minutes on each side, until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown.
